Quick Roundup:
Interested in thinking deeply about the at-home dad numbers from yesterday? Check out Half Changed World’s followup post on the topic. By the way, Chip been suggested that we urge the Census Bureau to come up with a more sensible measure of at-home parent numbers; I’m now working on a letter to the Census folks, and I’ll post it when I finish.
A stay-at-home mom goes on strike. Not sure how I feel about this, but trying to make a point by mimicking an 80s movie might not be the best bet. (Credit to Feministing for the link to the story *and* the movie.)
It’s apparently open season on SAHDs. I’ve received a couple of e-mail invitations to try out for this show or the other (including a second request from Wife Swap. Remember them?). Russ at the Daily Yak has the details. If you are foolish enough to take Wife Swap up on their offer, tell ‘em Russ sent you. He gets a finders fee.

Hey…. I was offered that finders fee too.
Wanna split it?
I couldn’t believe it. I was feeling really special. Both ABC and Martha after me and my little group in a one week time span. I guess they found about all of us.

Yeah, I got a few of those too, and felt the greatest pleasure in responding “NO WAY!!”
Also, thanks for working on the sahd definition thing, rd!

A friend of mine said that on Jay Leno the other night there was a segment at a local county fair featuring a Stay-At-Home Dad, but that this guy was a toothless, dirty-looking slob who sounded like he was from Deliverance. Nice…

I found an interesting Australian survey, mostly about childcare:
http://www.ausstats.abs.gov.au/Ausstats/subscriber.nsf/Lookup/D197B51F076022B3CA256D2800059995/$File/44020_jun%202002.pdf
A table at the back shows the hours of work of mothers and fathers, and the type of childcare used (if any).
I had a quick play with the statistics, and found the following:
4% of Australian children under 12 have no non parental childcare, and a mother who works >35 hours a week.
7% of u12 children have no non parental childcare, and a father who doesn’t work at all.
There’s more on part-time dads working but I’ve run out of space!
