I thought my best advice as an at home dad would come from my mom, who
was an at home parent herself for about 15 years. It didn't; it came
from my dad.
"Whatever you do as a parent, just love your kids and make sure
they know they can always come home. I always felt that no matter what
I did, even murder, my mom would still love me. If I ever needed money
or a place to stay for awhile, I knew I was always welcome to move back
home."
With all the complexity in the world today, I think my dad is
right. Parenting comes down to one simple thing: love. Love your kids.
Tell them you love them. Show them you love them. Make sure they know
they can tell you ANYTHING and, while you may be disappointed in them
or need to discipline them, you will still LOVE them.
