Teenagers just finished with knight-in-shining-armour fairy tales? Retirees knee-deep in Mills and Boon romance novels? Doesn't sound like many of the women I know (especially not my wife). And since when does 'providing for' exclude being a constant presence in the life of your children, allowing a space for your wife to develop her career? There are many more ways to 'provide for' than just bringing home the cash. I get the feeling that people design these surveys with a conclusion already in mind. What do men want? I can tell you what this man wants - his wife. Who are they asking? Teenagers just finished with knight-in-shining-armour fairy tales? Retirees knee-deep in Mills and Boon romance novels?

And since when does ‘providing for’ exclude being a constant presence in the life of your children, allowing a space for your wife to develop her career? There are many more ways to ‘provide for’ than just bringing home the cash.
